Left Robe about 9.00 to get to Hahndrof for lunch. What a wonderful surprise when we got to this little German town. There was a Octoberfest in full swing. Packed out again with our Asian friends all again clicking away wearing so many layers of clothing you'd think they were at the Artic not Australia. It was 33 degrees, we had hit 39 degrees on the open highway. Anyway we went to the busiest bar in town and had a feast! Pork chop, Hock of Ham, 3 sausage, mash pots, sauerkraut and Pretzels all was down with a half of larger!
After a wander round headed off to our destination for tonight, Lyndoch and we have a charming two bedroom cottage with a Spa.
Quickly got my clothes off and spent a wonderful hour just relaxing in hot bubbles. FAB.
We are now in the Barossa Wine Valley region so I guess will be doing a lot of the grape tasting for the next two days as we have three nights in this lovely little place.
Tuesday 6th
Drove up to Clare where the region is famous for its white wines. Our first was Seven Hills a beautiful estate ,has its own church and wonderful cellars. After tasting and ready for lunch our hostess suggested Mr Micks in town. Fab Tapas bar just fab I wanted to borrow a glass but Elli wouldn't let me.(another Sue!) drove back to Jacobs Creek large commercial concern very different from previous but wines where good. Back home for a soak!
Wednesday 7th
Stayed local today to try more red wines! Called into Barossa Cheese Company, brought some really smelly goats cheese. Popped into a little chalk paint shop showed me how to stencil, may do my bathroom cabinet. Then onto Wolf Bass cellars. Lunch was calling so went to Maggie Beers farm sho. Our equivalent to Mary Berry, watched a cookery demonstration and were able to taste all the food cooked. Yummy.
Onto some more serious wine tasting, Bethany's, great views from their cellars
Back home for my last bubble bath!
Thursday 8th
Left our delightful cottage on the long long straight roads going through varied countryside, shrub and gum trees to forest areas, then stopping at Berri for lunch on the banks of the river Murray. Like a little oasis.
Onto Mildura for our overnight motel stop, passing fruit shops where we brought 2 Kilos of satsumers for 3$ .
Friday 9th
Leaving here for our journey back home. I think we have a 5 hour drive.
